Covid Safe Auditions
MUSIC DIRECTOR INTERVIEWS - THURSDAY 8 OCTOBER
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, our interviews this year will be somewhat different, at least during first term. Currently, all interviews for DOE performances will be taking place online. For the beginning of term we are in need of multiple Music Directors to lead the work of the scenes. As the term proceeds we may need other positions, which we will then communicate through our channels online.
Fill in the Music Director Form https://forms.gle/W2moEeKoZsmG2tC18
Give as much information as you can about your musical background and any other relevant information.

SINGERS AUDITIONS - THIS WEEKEND 9-11 OCTOBER
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, our auditions this year will be somewhat different, at least during first term. Currently, all auditions for DOE performances will be taking place online.
1. Book an interview slot: Saturday 10 October + Sunday 11 October
Once you have booked a slot, you will receive a link to a zoom call with the production team, who will have a relaxed chat with you about your musical/theatre background.
2. Fill in the Singers Audition Form+Send us a video recording (Deadline: October 9!)
Due to Covid-restrictions we are not able to do face-to-face recordings at the start of term. We therefore ask that you fill out the form linked above and add a link to a video recording of you singing a piece of your choice (approx 2-3 min). If you have never sung opera before don't worry - you can record any other song you think shows off your voice. For guidelines on how to record yourself please scroll down.
3. Call-backs+second video recording
If we are interested in casting you in our show, we will send you another link to a zoom call to discuss the scene in more detail. We will also send you the sheet music and a recording of an extract from the show. You will be required to record yourself singing the extract, which you will then send to us. After this second round audition, we will make the decision about casting you in the show.
TIPS AND TRICKS
We know that online auditions can be anxiety-inducing, so here are a couple of tips on how to get a good recording. Good Luck!
No need for fancy gear, a mobile camera is perfect.
Record in landscape mode, it makes for a better fit when you upload it later.
Try to have a plain background if you can.
Don't stand too close to the wall behind you, and not too close to the camera.
Don't stand with your back to a window, we want to be able to see your lovely face.
Try to have a light source in front of you, not behind or above.
If you have a backtrack you can use it, but a capella is totally fine.
Don't worry too much about it being perfect, we just want to know what you sound like and where we could cast you this autumn.
Sing your heart out - remember why you audition: singing is something you enjoy and love!
